Kinglake National Park

A few weeks ago we visited Kinglake, an area of the national park that had only just been re-opened after the devastating bushfires several years ago. It was a really hot day and the track to the waterfalls was fairly exhausting. But the beauty of the regenerating bush was worth it and the kids were able to gather sticks to bring home to create shelters.

The colour of the gum leaves against the charred black trunks was striking.

Because we hadn’t planned our trip we didn’t bring any picnic stuff which is a shame because there is a nice area for eating with tables and some shade. Next time we will be more organised.

On the way home we ate cake at the nearby cafe and picked up some apples from a roadside stall.
